Kelley Higney and Ellen McAlister

Bug Bite Thing was founded in 2017 by Kelley Higney and her mother Ellen McAlister, a seasoned entrepreneur. Kelley’s daughters, like her, were both “mosquito magnets.” After many failed attempts to find relief by using creams and trying home remedies, Kelley decided to research how other countries combat insect bites. She discovered an innovative product that used suction to remove the insect saliva/venom and eliminate the itching, stinging, and swelling, instead of masking the symptoms. Amazed by the effectiveness of the product, Kelley knew she had to make it readily available and offer other families relief. In October 2019, Kelley and Ellen appeared on ABC’s hit show, “Shark Tank” and pitched to the Sharks to invest in their business. After receiving offers from all the Sharks, they decided to strike a deal with Lori Greiner. Since appearing on “Shark Tank,” Bug Bite Thing’s business has flourished and the company is on its way to becoming a global household name.

GreatIt works great, but you have a sensitive skin it will leave a bruise on it.

Hit or missI was a bit skeptical when it came to the bug thing. I’ve seen a bunch of advertisements on tv and I had to buy it especially during the summer. The first time using the bug thingy took some time to get use to but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty simple. I notice that it works best when you use it right when you get bit. If you wait too long and then use it, I noticed that it wasn’t as effective.

If you’re expecting to get bug bites carry this on youFor me, it worked like a charm but only if I used it immediately after feeling a mosquito bite. I noticed there wasn’t any further itching sensation if I did. However, if I tried using it on a bite that’s settled in for about 30 minutes or longer, it wasn’t as effective or effective at all. I gave this 5 stars because the packaging does suggest to use it soon after a bite so it wasn’t a surprise.Suction power was good. Good enough to leave a a ring indentation on the skin where the barrel of the device is placed, and a bruise or “hickey” on the origin of usage.Subjectively speaking, it was easy enough for me to use since I have a good tolerance for pain. Other people I’ve had try it couldn’t pull the lever all the way back because to them it felt as though the edges were cutting their skin. I personally didn’t think this was the case. It did feel as though it was just vacuuming my skin up.I don’t know why scent is a category to review because was no scent. Unless there’s supposed to be. If there is, I didn’t smell anything.

Works pretty wellThis does work, but you have to pull really slowly and you have to repeat every so often as the itch does come back. It will leave a red mark, and it doesn’t actually suck anything out of the bite. It just suctions with enough pressure to take the itch away. But also, my bites did clear up faster when using this.

Will never go camping without itI was a bit suspicious about this but desperate to try something new since my daughter is a bug magnet. Had an opportunity to use it almost immediately as we spent a day outdoors soon after I purchased it and sure enough, kiddo had bug bites almost immediately. Used this as fast as I noticed and it worked GREAT! Used the suction on multiple bites and later you couldn’t even tell she had anything there. Usually there is a big welt with days of cortisone but these were gone so quickly! Have used a few times since with great results. Am going to buy more before next summer so I have one on hand at all times.

Simple and effectiveI had my doubts about this product, but it does exactly what the ads claim it does – use it quickly on a mosquito bite and “voila”, no more itch. Lots of suction, possible too much though. It can leave a temporary mark, almost as though you used cupping.

Hmmmm not sureNot sure if it’s really removing the mosquito poison but I think that the suction creates enough nerve confusion that it does help the itching if u repeat a few times in a row. My kid likes it too.

  8. Erica

It’s usefulI was getting mosquitoes bites on my legs and I thought I would try it out… It does work and it definitely help with the itching but it does leave a mark from the suction.. I don’t know if I did it too hard but it doesn’t hurt when using it.

Be carefulWorks great however I wouldn’t recommend using on your head. Lots of regrets

  10. Jai Sallah

Best purchase ever!!Im prone to getting extremely bad insect bites as you can see in the first picture and had been prescribed everything from the steroid creams to the antibiotics and this is the only thing that has actually helped! No/very little itching now and after using the device just once my bites calmed down into the second picture. Really didn’t expect it to be this good!!
